DiT Hospital Meetings

Its been a busy year for AMA Victoria's Senior Industrial Relations Adviser, Andrew Lewis. He has travelled all over Victoria to meet with DiTs at their place of employment.  A run down of the issues discussed and hospitals visited can be found here.

Intern Orientation- January 2011

Topics:

  • AMA as a National Institution.
  • Examples of AMA representation and real world DiT experience.
  • AMA’s DiT Agreement 2008 – 2012: The meaning in law & how this was achieved through Member action.

First round resident society meetings

Topics:

  • AMA’s lobbying (state medical boards to AHPRA, RACS accreditation costs, Health Services Plan, funded bed increase and Medicare Locals)
  • AMA’s lobbying to minimise impact of Intern “tsunami”  for quality training and career opportunities.
  •  IR dispute round-up (evidence base for collective action equals outcomes)
  • Classification Translation (how to check you are being paid correctly, reason for the changes & evidence that no DiT is disadvantaged)
  • Bullying / adverse action (new laws explained and examples of AMA protecting Members)

Hospitals visited in the first round were: The Alfred, Maroondah, Angliss, Monash, The Austin, Northern, Ballarat  (and additional 2 meetings dedicated to overtime dispute), Royal Children's Hospital , Box Hill , Royal Melbourne Hospital , Dandenong , St Vincent’s, Royal Victoria Eye & Ear Hospital, Sunshine, Frankston, Western and Geelong.

Second Round AMA / Resident Society Meetings

Topics

  • Enterprise Bargaining (EB) start up (consultation: ITC, private sector training, Intern numbers. impact on career and training, parental leave and job flexibility)
  • FWA Dispute activity
  • Site specific IR membership advocacy examples
  • College Trainee survey
  • Bullying / adverse action (new laws explained and examples of AMA protecting Members)
  • AMACDT / DiT Subdivision – DiT voice within AMA and external to Government.

Hospitals visited in the second round were: The Alfred,  Maroondah, The Austin, Northern, Ballarat,  Royal Children's Hospital, Bendigo (included Medical Workforce Unit consultation on restructure), Royal Melbourne Hospital, Box Hill, St Vincent’s, Dandenong, Sunshine, Frankston, Maroondah, Geelong and The Mercy.

Rural DiT rotation hospital meetings

Bairnsdale, Shepparton, Bendigo, Swan Hill, Echuca, Traralgon, Hamilton, Wangaratta, Horsham, Warragul, Mildura, Warrnambool, Sale and Wodonga.
