History of AMA Negotiated Employment Conditions (Since 1999)
AMA Victoria is the reason there have been ongoing and substantial improvements to DiT public hospital employment wages and conditions. AMA Victoria’s members provide the mandate and resources to negotiate these outcomes effectively.

1999
- Nine per cent wage increase over three years
- Salary packaging introduced
- Registrar classification introduced (years one to four automatic progression, Senior Registrar and Principal Registrar)
- Protection of all entitlements formally available under the expired State Award
- Full compensation for the loss of particular taxexempt benefits
- Annual leave loading increased (based on hours worked across a year)
- Paid maternity leave introduced (two weeks).
2002
- 12 per cent wage increase over three and a half years
- Telephone on-call allowance introduced
- Re-call payment increased (minimum five ordinary hours pay per re-call)
- Unrostered overtime allows DiT ‘self authorisation’
- Registrar ‘free from service training time’ clearly defined
- Paid flights for interstate/Mildura rotations introduced
- Safe hours rostering introduced
- Paid parental leave introduced (one week males, four weeks females).
2006
- Nine per cent wage increase over 18 months
- CME introduced with $1,000 annual reimbursement
- Night shift allowance introduced (25 per cent of hourly rate)
- Paid conference leave introduced (one week)
- AMC exam leave introduced
- Paid maternity leave increased (six weeks).
2008
- 15 per cent to 17 per cent wage increase over four years
- Registrar classification automatic progression introduced (years one to seven)
- CME allowance introduced ($1,000 to $2,500 per annum)
- Long service leave accrual protection introduced when working interstate
- Paid maternity leave increased (10 weeks).
2010
AMA Victoria introduces its on-line Wage Calculator. The Calculator reflects DiT entitlements, replicates hospital time sheet templates and produces an easy to understand pay summary to assist in fixing problems with your hospital. AMA Victoria members have exclusive access to this useful tool.
