General Meeting of Medical Staff – A Huge Success
At today’s General Meeting held at AMA House, over 300 Doctors from metropolitan hospitals demonstrated full backing for AMA Victoria to progress the 2002 Medical Remuneration Review. Dr Kerryn Phelps – President, Federal AMA, called on the Government to recognise that the items sought are to preserve the quality of medical care to the Victorian Community.
The 300 Doctors in attendance at unanimously endorsed the following Resolution.
“AMA Victoria has made comprehensive and reasonable proposals to public hospitals and the Victorian Government designed to make public hospital medical practice more attractive in Victoria.
Having heard a report on the progress of negotiations, this meeting is dismayed by the negative hospital and State Government response to the AMA proposals to revitalise medical staffing in Victorian public hospitals.
Hospital medical staff call on the Government to provide an adequate response to these matters urgently to ensure Victoria can continue to provide high quality patient care in our public hospitals.
This meeting authorises AMA Victoria to co-ordinate professional action by medical staff to make it clear to hospitals and to the State Government that their response to the AMA proposal has been totally inadequate and unacceptable, and would lead to inevitable further decline in public hospital services.
AMA is to report back to members on progress, and on further action if necessary by 18 October 2002.”
AMA will continue to work to achieve a settlement.
