AMA Victoria takes drastic steps to warn State Government of impending health disaster
AMA Victoria took unprecedented action today to alert the community to the consequences of the State Government stalemate on resolving the medical indemnity crisis.
An advertisement, featured in both The Age and The Herald-Sun, is aimed at informing the public that the crisis has reached crunch time with many specialists, particularly obstetricians, hanging up their stethoscopes rather than working in such uncertain times.
Attempts at developing an informed dialogue regarding the issue with the Victorian government have so far been totally unsuccessful, with little interest and understanding of the depth of the problem being displayed by the Premier and the Cabinet.
It is very rare for AMA Victoria to take such an aggressive lobbying approach but with the clock ticking and doctors making final decisions about their future, and therefore the future of their patients, the time for the State Government to stop dithering has arrived.
