Short term fixes don't work, we need a plan!
AMA Victoria President Dr Mark Yates today said the short-term fix at Seymour Hospital had clearly failed.
“The community will continue to face uncertainty regarding access to quality health services while hospital management fails to effectively address its poor relationships with local doctors.
“The hospital must address these underlying issues if it is to maintain community confidence and attract and retain doctors essential to providing the community with a quality health service,” he said.
Dr Yates said Seymour was yet another rural hospital in trouble because the Board had no medical representation to bridge relationships with local doctors and no clear direction from the State Government.
“Once again we have a rural health service in uncertainty and no Rural Health Strategy to guide the Board in its decision making.
“Clearly adhoc, short term fixes do not work and the State Government needs to look at securing the broader longer term future of our rural health services with a comprehensive plan,” Dr Yates said.
