MPBV decision on convicted doctor concerning
The Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria decision to allow a doctor convicted on child pornography charges to continue as a doctor is understandably of great concern to the public.
AMA Victoria President Dr Mark Yates said the doctor’s actions had brought the medical profession’s image into disrepute.
“The person has clearly breached our code of ethics and broken the law. His conduct was unethical and brought serious discredit upon the profession of medicine.
“The actions of one person can bring the whole profession into disrepute which is of great concern to AMA Victoria.
“I can understand the public’s genuine concerns. However, the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria knows all the facts and reasons for its decision. I understand it is in rare circumstances a doctor would be able to continue to practise under these circumstances.
“In light of the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria decision, it is reasonable the public want assurances from the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria about public safety during the course of his practise,” Dr Yates said.
