WorkChoices in Medical Practice

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) Victoria today announced a series of information sessions in metropolitan and rural areas of Victoria to help medical practices understand the Australian Government’s WorkChoices legislation.

According to AMA Victoria President Dr Mark Yates, over the last six months medical practices have heard a lot about WorkChoices.

“This seminar program is a great opportunity for people to come along and learn about what WorkChoices means for them.”

The AMA has secured funding from the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations to run a number of free WorkChoices information sessions, which have been designed specifically for medical practices. Sessions are open to members and non-members and will cover:

• What is WorkChoices and how does it apply?
• Transitional arrangements and the impact on awards.
• The Australian Fair Pay and Conditions Standard.
• Time and wages records, termination of employment and right of entry provisions.

Dr Yates said keeping up with changes in legislation is often a chore for small business, however, these sessions are being delivered by people who understand medical practice.

“Not only will the information be presented in a relevant and easy to understand format, all participants will receive a free WorkChoices Kit that they can keep for future reference.”

The schedule of sessions in Victoria is listed below. Bookings for these sessions can be made by contacting Aspa Papas on (03) 9280 8743.
