Christine Nixon to lead media skills conference
9 October 2007
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon will lead AMA Victoria’s Communications and Media Skills Conference in the hills of the Yarra Valley on 24 to 25 November.
The conference is designed to provide healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge required to develop as a leader and deliver effective messages to government and the public.
Commissioner Nixon will provide insight into the opportunities and challenges associated with new styles of leadership, future workforce planning, and the power of partnerships.
"Strong leadership includes the ability to communicate effectively in a range of areas - not least effective communication with the community,” said Commissioner Nixon.
"The media plays a pivotal role in assisting and promoting the positive work of an organisation, but equally can place considerable pressure during major incidents or when dealing with contentious issues. It is during these times that effective communication skills are vital.”
AMA Victoria CEO and conference presenter, Jane Stephens, said this style of training was great for health care professionals looking to pursue an executive boardroom focus for their career.
Conference attendees will gain communication and presentation skills in an intensive media interview workshop with presenter Doug Weller, Director of Corporate Media Services, and learn media tips from Sandy Kaye, who will draw on her 25 years experience as a journalist and producer.
The conference is located at the Sebel Heritage Yarra Valley in Chirnside Park, 45 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, and provides the perfect setting to unwind from city life, while learning valuable media and communications skills.
Extra accommodation can be arranged for partners and family members, who may want to enjoy a spa treatment, game of golf or nature walk at the Sebel, or even visit the nearby Yarra Valley Vineyards. Childcare facilities are also available.
The luxury resort also offers contemporary spa cuisine, state of the art gymnasium, heated pool, steam room and can arrange activities such as cookery classes, mountain bike riding, volleyball, bird watching and canoeing.
