AMA Victoria to hear local doctors’ concerns
8 August 2008
AMA Victoria will be told the concerns and ideas of local doctors at its bi-annual South West subdivision meeting in Warrnambool on Tuesday evening (12 August).
Doctors will have the opportunity to take the floor for two minutes to update their colleagues and AMA Victoria representatives on issues of concern and ideas for improving health care in the region.
AMA Victoria President Dr Doug Travis said Warrnambool doctors played an important role in shaping AMA Victoria’s rural and regional health initiatives. “We look forward to the input of local doctors at Tuesday’s meeting,” he said.
The meeting will provide an update on the progress of AMA Victoria’s enterprise bargaining negotiations for public hospital doctors.
“We are seeking feedback from our members on an enterprise bargaining proposal,” said Dr Travis. “We will discuss the progress made in negotiations so far and our options for action.”
Tuesday’s meeting will also feature a presentation from Victoria Police on equipping local doctors with the skills to deal with aggressive patients. Doctors will learn how to better protect themselves and staff members from the risk of violence and how Victoria Police can assist in risky situations.
