AMA Victoria to hear Mallee doctors' concerns
23 October 2009.
AMA Victoria’s President Dr Harry Hemley will meet with local doctors in Mildura on Monday evening (26 October) to hear their concerns about healthcare in the region and discuss the Federal Government's heathcare reform agenda.
"AMA Victoria's Mallee subdivision meeting is a chance for local doctors to share their views on the direction of Australia's healthcare reform," Dr Hemley said.
"The National Health and Hospital Reform Commission has made 123 recommendations to the Federal Government about how it thinks the health system should run; now its up to local doctors to have their say.
"Some of the health reforms that on the table could result in drastic changes to patient care in general practice and hospital settings. It is important that Mallee doctors have a chance to voice their ideas and concerns about the reform process.
"Mallee doctors have always played an important role in shaping AMA Victoria’s rural and regional health agenda,” Dr Hemley said. “I look forward to their input at Monday’s meeting.”
Local doctors will also have an opportunity to take the floor for two minutes to update their colleagues and AMA Victoria representatives on other issues of concern or ideas for improving healthcare in the region.
