Doctors welcome new cancer centre plans

AMA Victoria has welcomed the announcement today that a world-class comprehensive cancer centre would be developed in Melbourne by 2015.
AMA Victoria President Dr Doug Travis congratulated the state and federal governments on the initiative, saying it would make Melbourne a leader in cancer care.
“This world-class treatment, prevention and research facility will be the envy of the world in the fight against cancer,” he said.
“Future planning and innovation for Victoria’s health system was absent in this week’s state budget and the Federal Government’s recent stimulus package. I’m glad the State and Federal Governments are now investing in the health of Victorians.”
