Swine flu vaccination doesn't hurt a bit - Hartland
4 November 2009.
AMA Victoria President Dr Harry Hemley has vaccinated Greens MLC Colleen Hartland against Swine Flu, to encourage all Victorian adults to contact their GP to arrange a vaccination for themselves and their children aged 11 and older.
"It's just a little jab, didn't hurt a bit, and it's free" said Colleen Hartland
"I think it's important to set an example that even the busiest people have time to help prevent the spread of Swine Flu. The vaccination will keep me safe, but more importantly it will help prevent the spread of the disease," said Ms Hartland
AMA Victoria president Dr Harry Hemley said:
"I encourage all adults, particularly those in the at risk groups, to become vaccinated against swine flu.
"The majority of swine flu cases have been mild but we've also seen severe cases and deaths from the disease
"Children under 10 are unable to receive the vaccine until it has been approved for use in children by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
"There are enough swine flu vaccination doses for all Australians.
"Those most at risk of swine flu complications have been given priority for vaccination; pregnant women, chronic disease sufferers, indigenous people, morbidly obese men and women, parents and healthcare workers.
"Some people have put off their vaccination to allow more vulnerable groups to become vaccinated first. It's now a good time for the wider community to become vaccinated.
"Remember, you're not only protecting yourself, but also those around you.
"The vaccination is free. Some GPs will bulk bill and others will bill for a standard consultation. Contact your GP for more information."
