AMA Victoria to hear Gippsland doctors’ concerns
16 April 2010
AMA Victoria President Dr Harry Hemley will meet with local doctors in Gippsland on Monday and Tuesday (19 & 20 April) to hear their concerns about healthcare in the region and discuss the Commonwealth’s health reform plan.
Dr Hemley will meet with local GPs, specialists, and state and federal members of parliament and host AMA Victoria’s bi-annual Gippsland subdivision meetings on Monday and Tuesday evening.
Dr Hemley’s Gippsland tour will begins in Sale on Monday, then he will travel to Morwell and Traralgon on Tuesday.
"AMA Victoria's Gippsland subdivision meetings are a chance for local doctors to share their views on the Commonwealth Government’s health reform package," Dr Hemley said.
"AMA Victoria has a number of concerns with current the National Health and Hospitals Network proposal, most notably the lack of extra funds in the first four years to increase bed capacity in our hospitals.
Dr Hemley said medical workforce attraction and retention would be on the agenda for his meetings, along with AMA Victoria’s rural workforce rescue package, which aims to address these issues through increased incentives for country doctors.
"Local doctors will also have an opportunity to take the floor for two minutes to update their colleagues and AMA Victoria representatives on other issues of concern or ideas for improving healthcare in the region."
"Gippsland doctors have always played an important role in shaping AMA Victoria’s rural and regional health agenda," Dr Hemley said. “I look forward to their input."
