The Victorian election health debate: Andrews vs Davis
16 November 2010.
Health Minister Daniel Andrews and opposition health spokesperson David Davis will put each other’s health policies to the test at AMA Victoria’s election health debate in Parkville tonight.
Minister Andrews and Mr Davis will have an opportunity to highlight their parties’ health policies before answering questions from AMA Victoria’s Council members, a group of 50 doctors which represent different craft groups and regional divisions of AMA Victoria.
AMA Victoria President Dr Harry Hemley said he expected a robust debate and anticipated the doctors would seek more detail on the recent health announcements and both parties’ longer term plans.
"Both the Labor Party and the Liberal/National Coalition have made very strong commitments to improving the health system over the past eight days," he said. "I’m interested to hear more of the detail and how the different announcements would fit together in a future health system."
Dr Hemley said he expected some discussion around the Coalition and Labor Party’s commitments to extra public hospital beds, given the competing claims of the parties.
