What is a normal length of contract?
Contracts have traditionally been of no less than 3 years duration in other than in identifiable circumstances. Pre-existing Certified Agreements often place minimum terms on contracts. The usual minimum is 3 years.
A number of health services employ specialists on ongoing contracts, rather than for limited terms.
Contracts of 5 years duration are common.
It is common for specialists in their first year as a consultant to be employed on a one year contract (on probation) before moving to longer contracts.
