What is a normal length of contract?
Contracts will generally be of no less than 3 years other than in identifiable circumstances.

It is common for specialists in their first year as a consultant to be employed on a one year contract (on probation) before moving to longer contracts.
A number of health services employ specialists on ongoing contracts, rather than for limited terms.
