Leadership development isn’t routinely included in medical school or specialty training, yet it’s expected in every aspect of practice. Our program is built for doctors and brings best practice leadership theory into practical strategies you can apply from day one. You’ll gain the skills to articulate your leadership purpose, influence others and navigate complex challenges with confidence.
As a senior doctor, you manage upward to executives and downward to junior colleagues while collaborating with peers, allied health and nursing staff in a multidisciplinary environment. These responsibilities carry significant weight and present unique challenges that can affect your performance. You may also be considering the next phase of your career and the leadership opportunities that will bring you fulfilment.
This program is for doctors who are at a consultant level and above who are currently managing and leading a team, service, or department.
Participants may also hold a leadership role in private practice, with many juggling more than one role across both the private and public sector.
On completing this program, you will be able to:
- Understand leadership dynamics in complex collaborative healthcare teams
- Develop self-awareness of your leadership style, strengths and growth areas grounded in your values and purpose
- Communicate skillfully with a diverse range of colleagues through active listening, perspective-taking and empathetic engagement
- Foster psychological safety and a culture of open, constructive professional conversations
- Mentor and delegate effectively to empower others and support their development
- Design and sustain high-performing multidisciplinary teams through clear structures, adaptive processes and agile practices
- Navigate conflict, difficult conversations and performance management with confidence, compassion and professionalism
- Apply strategic thinking and innovation to lead change projects and adapt to evolving challenges
- Maintain resilience, work-life balance and self-care using gratitude, humility and self-compassion to prevent burnout
- Build and leverage professional networks to support team performance, career advancement and wellbeing
- Set and achieve sustainable personal and team goals using SMART actions, realistic timelines and continuous improvement.
