We are hearing from a growing number of doctors about the challenges of navigating neurodiversity at work, particularly when workplace structures, practices and environments do not recognise or act on providing the flexibility or support they need.
Without appropriate understanding, support and workplace accommodations, neurodivergent doctors can face unnecessary barriers that affect their wellbeing, participation and ability to reach their potential at work.
We want to better understand these experiences and, importantly, what can make a difference.
Our aim is to build a practical body of knowledge for doctors, informed by doctors. We want to share experiences, strategies and ideas that may help other doctors navigate neurodiversity throughout their careers. And we want to develop resources to assist us and assist doctors to navigate this space.
We are interested in hearing about your experiences. What has worked for you? What practical changes or accommodations have made a difference? What workplace practices create unnecessary barriers? What strategies have you developed? What do you wish you had known earlier?
The insights we gather will be used to:
Provide practical information and ideas for other doctors
Share strategies that doctors have found useful at work
Identify workplace adjustments and accommodations that can make a difference
Help managers and health services better understand how they can support neurodivergent doctors to work well and reach their potential.
Assist individual doctors with their personal work-related needs.
There are different ways to contribute. You can send us your ideas or experiences in writing, or we can arrange a conversation and capture them for you.
Your contribution can be completely anonymous. Alternatively, if you are comfortable sharing your story, we can work with you to develop a member profile or article to help build greater awareness and understanding.
You don’t need to have all the answers. We are interested in what you have learnt from your own experience and what might help another doctor navigating similar challenges.
