The AMA Victoria Professional Development and Careers team, in partnership with Medical Students’ Council of Victoria (MSCV), have supported final year medical students to navigate the intern application process for more than a decade.

This webinar is designed to help you approach the 2026 intern match process with clarity and confidence. The focus is not just on understanding the process, but on making thoughtful preferencing decisions that support you to learn well, perform strongly and keep future career options open.

Rather than asking “Where can I get an internship?”, this session encourages you to consider where you are most likely to thrive. We will explore how to balance cultural and learning fit with longer-term career considerations, so you can set yourself up to excel during internship while still leaving room to explore different pathways.

We will cover:

  • What is the intern application process?

  • What internship settings are available across Victoria

  • How do I navigate the process?  How to plan and prepare?

  • What do I need to consider when preferencing?

  • Key factors to consider when assessing cultural and learning fit

  • How to think about future career pathways without locking yourself in too early

  • Where to start and how to plan your next steps

  • What help is available to me, should I need it?

Registration is essential. To register, you will need to join AMA Victoria as a student member. Student membership is free. Membership and registration allow us to share event details, the recording, supporting resources and responses to questions we are unable to address during the live session.
