7 October 2018
AMA Victoria welcomes today’s announcement by the Victorian Government of $1.5 billion for the redevelopment of Footscray Hospital.
AMA Victoria has strongly advocated for funding for Footscray Hospital which was built in the 1950s and no longer meets the needs of its rapidly growing local community.
“AMA Victoria is very pleased with this outcome. It’s a welcome announcement for patients and for the rapidly growing western suburbs. Hard working doctors, nurses and other staff at Footscray Hospital have been anxiously awaiting this news and will be very much relieved,” said A/Prof Julian Rait, President of AMA Victoria.
“We call on the Victorian State Opposition to match this commitment. The redevelopment of Footscray Hospital must be a priority.”
Funding for the redevelopment of Footscray Hospital is a part of AMA Victoria’s Priority Goals for Victoria’s Health System, due to be launched next week.
“We look forward to continuing to advocate for improvements in mental health, regional and rural health, public hospital culture, drug and alcohol rehabilitation and palliative care in the lead-up to the election and beyond,” said A/Prof Rait.
