Member forums

AMA Victoria members can get involved with the issues that matter to them via councils, subdivisions and special interest groups.

The AMA Victoria Council develops policy for consideration by the AMA Victoria Board. It is an important forum for doctors to discuss and debate issues affecting the community, patients and the profession.

Council membership is necessary for election to the AMA Victoria Board, which occurs at the Council’s May meeting each year, a week before the Annual General Meeting.

The Council includes representatives of other groups of AMA Victoria members, including subdivisions, AMA Fellows, affiliated organisations and independent members.

Affiliated Organisations

Affiliated Organisations are medico related bodies associated with AMA Victoria that are represented on the Council. They include vocational training colleges, university medical student societies and professional associations.

Subdivisions are groups of AMA Victoria members with a common workplace location (geographic) or a similar career direction, employment type or health sector (vocational).

Subdivisions are able to raise concerns, discuss public health issues and influence policy development and advocacy for broader discussion and debate at AMA Victoria's State Council.

Opportunities also exist for AMA Victoria members to join the following policy councils:

  • Rural and Regional Doctors Policy Council

  • Private Practice Specialist Policy Council

  • General Practice Policy Council
