In recent weeks, AMA Victoria, and particularly our Section of General Practice, have been advocating extensively, both publicly and privately, on the issue of general practice closures, and have urged the Government to adopt a more proportionate, risk-based approach to ensure access to vital primary care. Today we received a pleasing update from the Victorian Department of Health, representing due recognition of our tireless advocacy on this issue.

#351 Fact sheet - Mandatory vaccination in medical practices
Employers face possible legal risks in imposing a mandatory requirement that employees are vaccinated against COVID-19. Issues relating to mandatory vaccination have not, to date, been decided by the courts so it is not possible to state with confidence a definitive legal position. A medical practice could direct its employees to be vaccinated if such a direction is both lawful and reasonable. Whether or not such a direction will be reasonable will depend on a number of factors.

#343 Digital image based prescribing arrangements extended
AMA Victoria has successfully pushed for an extension of digital image based prescribing arrangements until 31 December 2021. However, the Victorian Department of Health has emphasised this will be the last such extension, with doctors urged to integrate electronic prescribing into their practice.
