AMA Victoria President to discuss workforce crisis with Mildura Base doctors

AMA Victoria President Dr Stephen Parnis will visit Mildura on Monday to discuss ongoing workforce issues at Mildura Base Hospital.

The hospital has been experiencing serious difficulties in attracting and retaining staff.

“There are a range of things we think could be done to improve the situation at Mildura Base” said Dr Parnis.

“The AMA Victoria has been monitoring the situation at Mildura Base for some time and will be suggesting a range of measures for the State Government to consider”.

Dr Parnis will meet with doctors and local stakeholders in an effort to establish how the difficulties faced at MBH can be overcome.

“I will be talking with doctors at the hospital and gaining their views on the areas AMAV has identified where improvements can be made”.

“These include changes in the areas of governance, training, reporting and transparency and employment conditions”.

“Mildura Base is in a difficult position as its status as a privately run public hospital sets it apart from the public hospitals which service rural and regional Victoria”.

“Hopefully some of the measures we are suggesting can help to remedy the situation so Mildura Base can continue to serve the community effectively”.

Dr Parnis will be available for comment throughout the day on Monday - for more information please contact Struan Robertson 0437 450 506
