AMA Victoria welcomes the State Governments announcement

25 January 2013

AMA Victoria welcomes the release of the Baillieu Government’s ‘Reducing the alcohol and drug toll: Victoria’s plan 2013-2017.

We are encouraged by the Governments detailed 15 point plan in achieving this.

The plan, which tackles many of the difficult and serious issues of alcohol and drug misuse in Victoria sets a positive agenda to address these issues.

AMA Victoria President, Dr Stephen Parnis, has welcomed the Government’s practical approach to drug and alcohol issues such as examining increasing the availability of naloxone to prevent heroin and other drug overdoses.

AMA Victoria has previously called on the Victorian Government for this practical reform which will save lives.

Now the hard work will begin to implement the plan and address these serious issues.

AMA Victoria will continue to work with the Government in addressing these difficult and important issues.

AMA Victorian President and Emergency Physician Dr Stephen Parnis is available to comment.
