CareSync Exchange, formerly known as Health Service Information Sharing, is Victoria’s public health services information sharing system designed to enhance the quality, safety, and continuity of care for all Victorians. This initiative enables the secure sharing of health information among public health services, ensuring that relevant patient information is available at the point of care. CareSync Exchange aims to improve clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. For more information, please visit CareSync Exchange | health.vic.gov.au.

Project progress and Privacy Management Framework

AMAV has been informed by the Department that the rollout of CareSync Exchange has achieved the “Production Readiness milestone” and is now in the “Technical Go-Live Phase”. Eastern and Austin hospitals are currently going through validation testing in preparation for data migration and enabling real-time data ingestion from their source systems. Work continues on preparation for Clinical Go-Live, including the development of education and training materials, electronic management record (EMR) integration, and policy development. A target launch date is set for the end of December 2024.

Additionally, the Privacy Management Framework (PMF) has been officially released. This framework is designed to protect the privacy of Victorians' health information while enabling clinicians to access critical data at the point of care. The PMF can be found at: CareSync Exchange | health.vic.gov.au

Introducing Chief Digital Health Officer Dr Sharon Hakkennes

Dr Sharon Hakkennes has been appointed as the Chief Digital Health Officer for the Victorian Department of Health. She will attend the AMA Victoria Council meeting on 12 November 2024. This meeting will provide an opportunity for Councillors to engage with Dr Hakkennes and discuss digital health strategies and initiatives, including CareSync Exchange, Victoria’s digital roadmap, virtual care, and My Health Record.

We look forward to Dr Hakkennes’ participation in November and will continue to keep our members informed about important developments in Victoria’s digital healthcare landscape.
