#152 Cheap car rental service for doctors during pandemic
8 April 2020
Health professionals who may be looking for an alternative to using public transport or ride sharing during the COVID-19 pandemic can take advantage of a special offer from East Coast Car Rentals.
The offer may be also be helpful to one-car families who wish to keep their own vehicle free from exposure to hospital clothes and equipment, or if they are living apart until the pandemic settles down.
The AMA has no commercial arrangement with East Coast Car Rentals, but some of our members may be interested in the following correspondence:
We would like to offer our support to healthcare workers in essential services. We are a small Australian car rental company and given recent events, in particular the shutdown of domestic and international travel, we have a surplus of grounded vehicles. Our business consists of 90 per cent leisure travellers, which is now almost non-existent, and as a result 85 per cent of our workforce has been stood down.
We understand that doctors, nurses and other health professionals may find it difficult getting to work in some cases given the current circumstances, or would like to avoid using public transport as a precaution.
We would like to offer our vehicles to healthcare workers in essential services at a dramatically reduced rate. This offer is open to doctors, nurses, paramedics, police, aged care staff and any other government/health-related service deemed as essential during this crisis.
The offer includes:
- A flat weekly rate of $50 for all vehicle classes
- Up to 200 kilometres free per day, or 1400 kilometres a week
- $900 excess, or
- Reduce your excess to $150 for $5.50 per day.
To access these rates, please phone the East Coast Car Rentals reservations hotline on 1800 327 826.
Renters will be required to provide a form of ID confirming they are working in an essential health or government service at this time. The service is available in the following cities:
- Gold Coast
- Sunshine Coast.
We acknowledge this service is only available to AMA Victoria members and other health professionals in the Melbourne metropolitan area, but if transport options are a concern for any members in rural Victoria, please provide your feedback to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
