28 July 2022
Here’s an update on a few of the issues AMA Victoria is working on for members:
- Unresolved issues at Goulburn Valley Health
- Position Statement on End-of-Life Care and Advance Care Planning
- iDEA2022: Time to Act.
Unresolved issues at Goulburn Valley Health
AMA Victoria has written to members previously about serious workplace culture issues at Goulburn Valley (GV) Health perpetuated by the executive management of the service: Communications and advocacy update: 27 January (amavic.com.au).
These issues, unfortunately, remain unresolved.
Members employed by GV Health (or indeed any health service) experiencing these issues are urged to contact our Workplace Relations team at amavic@amavic.com.au or on (03) 9280 8722.
Equally, if any member is considering taking up a position at GV Health, we would urge them to get in touch.
Position Statement on End-of-Life Care and Advance Care Planning
The Federal AMA’s Ethics and Medico-Legal Committee (EMLC) is in the process of revising the Position Statement on End-of-Life Care and Advance Care Planning 2014.
The major changes to the updated draft involve:
- Updating citations
- Updating language and terminology
- Referencing updated AMA policies including policy on cultural safety, LGBTQIA+ health care and conscientious objection
- Recognising the legality of voluntary assisted dying in State jurisdictions
- Expanding reference to marginalised or vulnerable communities
- Expanding reference to workforce issues.
If you would like a copy of the draft to provide comment, please email Lewis Horton at LewisH@amavic.com.au.
iDEA2022: Time to Act
Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA) is a not-for-profit organisation of doctors who are working to improve public health by promoting greater care for the environment.
DEA's annual conference (iDEA) will be held in Melbourne over the weekend of the 2-4 of September 2022 at the University of Melbourne and virtually. Its theme is ‘Time to Act’. DEA aims to inspire its audience of doctors, medical students, and healthcare professionals to transform their lives, workplaces, communities and world, to be more healthy, sustainable and just.
