Health Services:
- Austin Health and
- Northern Health, in partnership with
- Mercy Hospital for Women
Population served (2026): 0.97 million
The Health Services Plan does not provide suggestions on which specific major children’s hospital should be linked with each network, although it does provide principles to consider. AMA Victoria seeks your recommendations and advice on which hospital would be the most suitable for the North Metro Local Health Service Network. The options are:
Children’s services: Which one is the best fit for North Metro and why?
- Monash Children’s Hospital
- Royal Children’s Hospital
The principles that the Expert Advisory Group suggested be considered in selecting these linkages are
- the relationship considers how consumers and staff flow across geography
- the major children’s hospital has capability and capacity to provide senior clinical advice and care to patients from the partnering Network
- there is strong alignment of leadership and organisational cultural and values between partners
- the relationship supports load sharing across the major children’s hospitals to optimise utilisation of these hospitals
- the relationship supports a balanced approach to ensure each major children’s hospital can meet the needs of their local communities as well as statewide demands.
