Make sure you have your ID swipe card and name badge
Have signed up for Medical Indemnity Insurance – most insurers offer it for free
Invest in some comfy shoes
Ask where the best hospital coffee can be found
Aim for a good night’s sleep
Stock the fridge with easy to prepare healthy food
Introduce yourself to nursing, cleaning, admin and other staff
Review my roster and request amendments or swaps early
Look ahead and apply for leave
Follow the hospital’s social media pages
Register or update details with Clinician’s Health Channel
Check in with the library and link in with available resources e.g. UpToDate access
Access your hospital email account
Schedule in an end of week social event to celebrate your first week working as a doctor

Make sure you are aware of the Victorian Doctors' Health Program (VDHP) and add their number — 1300 330 543 — to your contacts
Join your hospital RMO society and get involved
